Post COVID Challenges faced by a Teacher

Schools across the world returned to normal regaining last year. During this period of normalcy, one of the most important challenges faced by a teacher is recovery of students to classrooms in both ways, physically as well as mentally.

We in India have faced one of the longest school shutdown in the world. Even during pandemic the teachers struggled to meet the pedagogical challenges. It has been reported that the pandemic affected the students a lot as almost all of them are facing serious learning losses. Even post COVID, the students haven’t been able to come out of the habit of using internet frequently and their over exposure to the electronic gadgets.

It doesn’t seem to be so easy to regain the pre- COVID scenerio unless the teachers, parents and other stakeholders come together for the said purpose. Habits of students have changed, their social behaviour has deteriorated since they were locked in homes during pandemic. The habit of sitting for an hour or so and listening to teachers without distraction has become worst and they can not retain attentiveness in a class even for few minutes. This has been very tiring for a teacher mentally as well as physically.

One very important point I would like to discuss here is that post COVID parents expectations have increased manifolds. They want teachers to do miracles and bring positive changes in their wards and enhance their academic performance. Believe me ‘Miracles do not happen overnight’.

Despite all challenges, we the teachers have not lost hope. Though it is difficult to bring students back to pen and paper but it’s not impossible. Their writing pace, confidence level and concentration has gone down considerably.

At last I would emphasize that we should have faith in our schools and their teachers. Miracles will happen again but needs some time. Thanks for being a patient reader……….
